App Development

Reach HPI has been designing and developing apps in support of public health and health promotion initiatives, since 2012. In that time we’ve built up a rich catalogue of effective, functional and beautiful mobile apps, and project partners equipped with accurate and comprehensive data to support their research. We’re experienced developers who love the craft of app design and development, and each project reflects this attention to detail.

We make the following commitments to our project partners:

  • Collaboration. We believe the best projects come from teams of experts, with each team member being trusted to do what they do best.

  • Communication. We will effectively communicate with you and your stakeholders. You’ll always know what exactly what you’re getting, and when.

  • Reliability. Reach HPI has never missed an agreed completion date.

Consultancy

Reach HPI offers consultancy services in a wide range of public health areas, with a focus on digital health. Our experience is broad: from intensive on-the-ground community consultation to developing a digital delivery plan for remote Australia, from highly technical app development in multidisciplinary teams, to social listening work and training, and specialised research and ideation.

As well as technical services, we also offer consultancy in infodemic management, health promotion, community engagement, behavioural strategy design, gamification, evaluation planning and implementation, and digital inclusion. Our academic background and ongoing affiliations mean we are well placed to lead on research, literature reviews and preparing content for publication. We’ve published peer-reviewed evaluations of our own apps, and one of these papers was recommended by Australian state governments as guidance for health app developers, and used by a national NGO in their digital evaluation plan.

UI/UX design

Already have a development team in place, or an existing app? Reach HPI can provide expert design services to ensure your app hits the mark. Design is much more than how an app looks. A well-designed app works intuitively, putting the most essential content and functionality front and centre, with more advanced features progressively disclosed. Reach HPI deeply understands mobile user experience, and care for the craft of app design is embedded in everything we do.

Reach HPI can audit your existing app, suggesting areas for UX improvement. Or, for new projects, we can guide your team through the design process, from low-fidelity wireframes, through interactive prototypes, high-fidelity mockups and full design systems. We can liaise with your developers throughout the build process, providing assets,  design documentation and guidance, to ensure your app is as beautiful and functional as it can be.

User acceptance testing

The best mobile apps are evaluated at each stage of the design and development process. User acceptance testing (UAT) is ideally carried out at least twice. Once at prototype stage, to ensure the proposed app has the best chance of solving the problem it’s intended to address. And again before release, to ensure the app is functional and easy to use. We help our project partners to understand this process and to craft a UAT plan that’s a perfect fit for their project, users and requirements.

Reach HPI undertakes UAT with the apps we develop, as well as other apps or websites. We use a range of techniques including workshops, interviews, think-aloud walkthroughs, and other validated instruments, to understand usability and identify pain points. We compile our findings and recommendations into comprehensive but easy-to-understand reports, which help to guide the next stages of development and release.
